January 2012
Collection has continued to increase rapidly thanks to the generosity of the patients in Singleton and Morriston Hospitals (Swansea), University Hospital of Wales, Llandough Hospital and Velindre Hospital (Cardiff), Withybush District General, Glangwili General Hospital (Carmarthen), Ysbyty Gwynedd (Bangor) and the Royal Gwent Hospital (Newport). The graph below shows that up to the end of January 2012, 5670 patients have consented since collection began in January 2005.
A variety of tumours are being collected, not all tumours are collected in every hospital but each centre aims to gradually expand the tumour types collected until all tumour types are covered. The pie chart below shows that seventeen different tumour types are currently being collected, with the recent inclusion of cervical cancer. Breast samples are collected from Swansea and Withybush and currently account for 30% of the collection, prostate is collected in Cardiff, Bangor and Swansea and accounts for 17% of samples. Colorectal samples are collected from four sites and accounts for 16% of the collection.
This page will be updated regularly to reflect the current status of the collection.
