January 2010
Collection has continued to increase rapidly thanks to the generosity of the patients in Singleton, Morriston, University Hospital of Wales, Withybush District General, Llandough and the Royal Gwent. Consenting in Bangor is currently on hold until the vacant nursing post is filled. The graph below shows that 3485 patients have consented since collection began in January 2005.

A variety of tumours are being collected, not all tumours are collected in every hospital but each centre aims to gradually expand the tumour types collected until all tumour types are covered. The pie chart below shows that seventeen different tumour types are currently being collected, with the recent inclusion of cervical cancer. Breast samples are collected from Swansea and Withybush and currently accounts for 32% of the collection, prostate is collected in Cardiff, Bangor and Swansea and accounts for 16% of samples. Colorectal samples are collected from all four pilot sites and accounts for 16% of the collection.

This page will be updated regularly to reflect the current status of the collection.
