The Wales Cancer Bank is a member of the


   
 
 

A number of key individuals are responsible for oversight of the Wales Cancer Bank and its day to day running.

Professor Malcolm Mason is the Director of the Wales Cancer Bank. He is a Cancer Research Wales Professor of Clinical Oncology and an Honorary Consultant Clinical Oncologist with Velindre NHS Trust. His main specialist interests lie in the treatment of urological cancers and he is an active Clinical Researcher who works closely with Cancer Research UK and the MRC Clinical Trials Unit. He chairs the Cancer Standards Group for Wales and leads the Cochrane Unit specialising in Urological Cancers, based in Cardiff. He acts as a consultant on advisory boards for Astra Zeneca, Novartis and Roche and has been principal investigator on several commercial studies, including the Roche Pertuzumab trial for which Professor Mason is the UK principal investigator.


Professor Gerry Thomas
is the Director of Scientific Services for the Wales Cancer Bank and has extensive experience in tissue banking. She is the Project Manager of the Chernobyl Tissue Bank, and a Visiting Professor in the Department of Histopathology in Imperial College, London. Her research interests are the molecular pathology of thyroid and breast cancer, and developing bioinformatic strategies for tissue banking.


Dr Alison Parry-Jones is the Manager of the Wales Cancer Bank. She is responsible for the day to day running of the WCB and is based at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. She has extensive project management experience in academia and is a PRINCE2 registered practitioner. Her background is in analytical chemistry and before moving into project management she worked in bioanalytical laboratories specialising in phase I and II clinical research.


Mr Daniel Naeh is the IT Manager of the Wales Cancer Bank. He has responsibility for the IT infrastructure, including project management and development of WCB software and integration with NHS clinical information systems. He is an MSc graduate in Computing with 14 years UK and international experience in large institutions and software houses. He previously worked as an IT consultant and project manager specialising in the development of banking applications such as asset management, securities and futures trading systems.
