Lisa Gilby

My name is Lisa Gilby and I have been nursing for 23 years.

I trained in the Royal Gwent Hospital where I have worked in a variety of specialities. I joined the clinical trials unit in 2001, working in both commercial gastroenterology studies and cancer trials.

Since July 2005 I have worked as Wales cancer bank co-ordinator for the Newport site and presently we are preparing to collect samples from urology patients and controls, we hope to extend this to other specialities in the future.

Our team consists of Mr Adam Carter (consultant Urological surgeon) Mr Majid Rashid (consultant Histopahologist) Karen Wild (research Nurse) and a dedicated BMS, Natalie Stacey.

Without doubt the Wales cancer bank provides an exciting opportunity for patients and researchers alike to be proactive in the field of improved cancer management and treatment.

Karen Wild

Hello my name is Karen Wild and I joined the Wales Cancer Bank in September 2009. I have been nursing for nearly 30 years and undertook my training in Bristol. Throughout this time I have worked in many different areas both in hospitals and within the community. For the past ten years I was based in a haematology/oncology day unit where patients with a diagnosis of breast, bowel, lung cancer and various blood disorders were treated. Over this period of time I observed many clinical trials taking place resulting in many new treatments being introduced. Consequently, I became very interested in research and when the opportunity for me to join the Wales Cancer Bank arose I was thrilled and look forward to be part of such a prestigious organisation.
