WCI conference
The Wales Cancer Bank exhibited and presented
at the Collaborating in Cancer Research conference
held recently in the Millennium Stadium in
Cardiff. Academic researchers from around
the UK joined with health care professionals,
patients and government agencies to listen
to scientific presentations and take part
in themed workshops. A lively debate on the
availability of herceptin concluded day one
with Jayne Sullivan, patient advocate who
protested at the Welsh Assembly Government,
as guest speaker. Sara Edwards, BBC Wales,
chaired one of two patient focussed workshops
on day two, aiming to demystify cancer research.
A panel of experts answered questions about
cancer research and the processes involved.

An evening reception and dinner took place at the National Museum of Wales where the prize for the best poster exhibited at the conference went to a researcher from the Medical Genetics department in Cardiff University.
A full report with links to some of the talks can be found on the Wales Cancer Institute website.
