Before submitting an outline application to the Wales Cancer Bank, please check that WCB collects the tumour of interest and then email your proposed requirements to wcbresearchapplications@cf.ac.uk.

This initial email should contain:
  • The Principal Investigator's contact details, plus details of where the proposed project will be carried out. If this is a project where biological material will be analysed at more than one site, details of any co-investigators and their institutions must be included.
  • An outline of the project, stating the amount and type of material to be requested from the WCB (e.g. 10 paraffin sections and one aliquot of DNA from each of 100 Grade 3 Node negative breast cancers in women aged over 70).
  • Source of funding for the project (sample supply is subject to a contribution towards cost recovery fee)
The outline application will be reviewed to ensure sample availability is current and that duplication of projects does not occur.

WCB will respond to the email within fourteen days to advise whether the required samples are available or to ask for further information.

Where appropriate, investigators will then be invited to submit a full application for review by the External Scientific Review Panel.
