Rachel Rachel is the newest Withybush recruit. She qualified as a nurse in 1988 and has worked in several areas including Outpatients, Accident and Emergency in Withybush and in Singleton Hospital, Swansea. Her last nursing post was in the Endoscopy Unit at Withybush and she was an endoscopy nurse for 14 years . She gained valuable experience and knowledge in diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, and this has assisted her in her new role as a research nurse for Wales Cancer Bank.
We routinely collect tissue and blood from patients diagnosed with a potential malignancy in breast or colorectal tumours. Although we also collect from other specialities such as gynaecological, bladder and skin. Relatives or partners are also approached and asked to provide a blood sample.
Enthusiasm for the project from patients and their families is overwhelming. We feel honoured to be part of the project as the Cancer Bank provides an exciting opportunity to develop and improve cancer management and treatments.
We are very fortunate at Withybush to have a dedicated team who fully embrace the Wales Cancer Bank project. |
